Getting Ready for the Carnival

Room 18 used Science to make our carnival merchandise to sell at the carnival.

We took ordinary hard chocolate and applied heat.  Chocolate has a low melting point so it soon turned into a thick creamy liquid over a gentle heat.  We stirred the melted chocolate with a wooden spoon to smooth out the last little chocolate-y lumps.  Luckily wood is not a good conductor so the heat could not travel up the wooden handle, it stays nice and cool so we could hold it safely.

When all the chocolate was melted, we spooned it into moulds.  We used a bread and butter knife to smooth it down flat.  We had moulds to make chocolate spoons for stirring hot milky drinks and moulds to make shells and fish to decorate our Cockle Bay cockle shells.

We coloured pictures of mugs and cockle shells which we used to package our chocolate-y treats.  Mrs Bear wrapped them in cellophane to keep them nice and fresh.

We kept them cool in a chilly bin with lots of ice in the bottom.  Then after a quick photo shoot, the class councillors took them to the hall ready for sale.
