Room 18 did Maltezer Maths in the afternoon. We are learning to measure distance in metres and centimetres; measure time in seconds, and be good sportspeople by cheering on our classmates.
It was also a good ways to learn about heats. We ran several heats, there are races to work out who are the fastest competitors by deciding the winner. Then they can compete against each other in the semi finals, and ultimately the final so we can establish the Ulimate Winner in Room 18. This was quite cool to learn about because earlier, when the Giraffes read the book, 'Skate Champs', they thought that heats were something to do with being hot! So, we combined Maths and Literacy in this challenge.
Heat 1: Chloe and Josh
Heat 2: Dimitri and Otis
Heat 3: Kadin and Adam (disqualified - maltezer did not reach end point)
Heat 4: Oliver and Ruby
Heat 5: Isabelle and Emma
Heat 6: Charlotte and Abbey
Heat 7: Nathaniel and Milan
Heat 8: LJ and Kadence
Heat 9: Liam and Constance (disqualified - maltezer did not reach end point)
Heat 10: Sam and Kaleb (from Room 12)
Semi Final 1: Chloe and Dimitri
Semi Final 2: Ruby and Emma
Semi Final 3: Charlotte and Milan
Semi Final 4: LJ and Kabel
Semi Final 1: Dimitri and Ruby
Grand Final: Milan and LJ
Distance: 160 cm or 1.6 m
Time taken in final: 4 seconds
Speed is distance/time = 160/40 = 40 cm per second
We hope that you enjoy this exciting video of the final:
