Long green hair, anyone?

As well as growing New World little garden seedlings, Room 18 has been growing grass.  To make it a bit more interesting, we grew the grass seed in pots with faces so that the grass (when it grows) will look like hair.

This was another good way to recycle, this time we re-used plastic bottles or jars instead of tine cans.  Everyone enjoyed making a face on their pot using googly eyes, feathers, pipe cleaners and beads.  We used a hot glue gun to stick all the pieces in place.

When we had finished the faces, it was time to fill the pots with potting mix, damp it down and sprinkle grass seed on the top.

We carry the pots out each day so they can sit in the sun and water them every morning so that the potting mix stays damp.

It was interesting to predict how long it would take for the grass seeds to germinate and start to sprout.  We could see tiny, tiny blades of grass on Wednesday, which was Day 5.

Soon the grass will be so long, we will need to give our Grass People a hair cut.  Watch this space!
