New World sent us a huge box of their little garden pots. There were also badges for everyone, together with coded messages about looking after plants in the garden. Luckily, the code was included in the pack so we could decode the messages!
We followed the instructions to sow the seeds in the tiny compostable pots. We measured out 50ml of water to add to the potting mix, so that it was not too dry and not too wet for the seeds.
We wore gloves when we mixed the water into the potting mix. Then we placed the seed tablet carefully in the little garden pot together with the soil.
We watered our seedlings every day and carried them out into the sun every day.
When the seedlings were too big for their little pots, we transferred them into bigger flower pots which we made out of recycled tin cans. When we first filled our tin cans, the potting mix was dry and the spores from the mix float in the air so we wore face masks for safety. Then we mixed in water and carried it outside. Now the potting mix was damp so we did not need a mask, unless you wanted one.
We drew and coloured a border to glue around the tin can to make it cool attractive.
Mrs Bear made two holes in each can so we could attach a handle to carry it home. We marked the spots and then made two holes using a hammer and a nail.
