Mufti, Movie and M&M Maths

After Home Learning tests, we did M&M Maths.  We have been looking at fractions and multiplication in Room 18, so it was a perfect time to do fractions of shapes with m&ms.

First, we got into groups of two, and made two halves of a circle by adding just two m&ms to a petri dish of water.  We had to be patient - at first, nothing appeared to be happening but then the coating on the sweets started to dissolve  . . .

Then, we got into groups of four, and made four quarters of a circle by adding four m&ms.

Lastly, we got into groups of three to make three thirds of a circle.

The best part was choosing our m&m colours and eating them afterwards!

We also had enough m&ms to make arrays to show the link between multiplication and division.  Here we have 2 x 6 = 12, and 12 divided by 2 is 6.
