Elmer the Elephant by David McKee

Now that our Elmer the elephants have been displayed at the Art Expo, it is time to reveal how we made them!  Everyone voted in Room 18 and the vast majority wanted to keep our Elmers secret until now.

It was a long process which started way back in Week 7 of Term 3 when we returned to school from the second lockdown.  We read lots of books in the series and got to know Elmer and his kind, mischievous ways.  We talked about the stories and the message the author, David McKee, was telling his readers.  In every story, Elmer looks different - it is OK to be different, in fact, it is something to celebrate.  In every story, Elmer is friendly, says hello and plays with all the animals in the forest - he includes everyone. In every story, Elmer is having fun - he is always positive, every day is a good day.  In every story, Elmer is positive and upbeat even when things are not going well - he is resilient and always looks on the bright side.

Here are some of our reading contracts about Elmer the Elephant.
