Measuring length

In Maths, we have been learning how to measure length using rulers.  We have been using metre rulers measuring up to 100 centimetres and our own 30 centimetre rulers.  That means that our unit of measure was centimetres but we wrote 'cm' for short.

First, we worked with a buddy to measure our length when we were lying down.  Our buddy drew around us with chalk, and then we both measured the length of our body.  We found that we all measured more than 100 cm (which is 1 metre - 'centi' means 100 in French) so we had to use two metre rulers joined together, one ending at 100 cm and the other starting at 0 cm.  We call this tiling.

After we had measured each other, we measured all sorts of things around the classroom, using the one metre rulers to measure long things up to 100 cm and our own 30 cm rulers for shorter things.
