Middle School Swimming Sports

Year 3 and 4 classes competed in the Middle School Swimming Sports on a cloudy Wednesday.  First, we had all the competitive races for people who could swim a length freestyle - races were organised by age and gender so there was 7 year girls, 7 year old boys, 8 year old girls and 8 year old boys.  Mr Dyer started all the races, and Mrs Todd was in charge of photo finishes.  Howick College students helped with placing competitors correctly using coloured batons.  All other students, parents and teachers were in the spectator benches - there was plenty of shouting and cheering once the swimmers left the starter's orders and were powering down the pool!

After the competitives, it was time for morning tea and then . . . unfortunately, the rain came down.  Novelty races and class relays still went ahead, but without spectators as non-competitors stayed warm and dry in their classrooms.

In the afternoon, we had a school assembly to acknowledge the first, second and third of each competitive race.

The batons were colour coded to show your placing.

A close finish!
