Birthday Statistics

At the beginning of the year, we started the Maths progamme by working with statistics.  First, we looked at the month we were born in.  We coloured in a paper cupcake to represent our birthday month, then we collaborated to make Birthday Month pictograph.

Later on, we made a birthday month bar graph.  We also transferred this data on to a tally chart.  We made statements about birthdays in Room 18 using statistical language.   Mrs Bear also made a pie chart - we could see which months had the most birthdays by finding the biggest slices of pie and checking the colour code.  After we had read all the graphs, we did a self assessment to explain which graph we thought was the easiest to read.

Adam's graphs and statements using statistical language like 'more than' and 'less than'.

  1. What a great, authentic, learning experience for maths. February, October and August are busy months for room 18.
