Favourite Fruit Maths

Everyone in Room 18 likes fruit and has some in their lunchbox.  We decided to find out what was our favourite fruit.  We used the same statistical process we had used to find the month with the most birthdays but, this time, we did it independently.

First we everyone draw a labelled picture of their favourite fruit, then we made a pictograph on the mat.  After we had talked about it, we transferred that data onto a bar graph in our books, and then onto a tally chart.  We made a pie chart of favourite fruit with Mrs Bear and it was very easy to see the winning fruit.

When we had glued in all the graphs, we wrote sentences about our findings using statistical language like 'less than',  'more than' and 'same as'.

In week 5, Ruby, Charlotte, Isabelle, Adam and Eillie shared their work with all the Year 3 students at the Weka Team Assembly.

If you check the code, you can easily see which is the more popular fruit in Room 18.

  1. I am really surprised that so many children like cherries! I thought strawberries would be the most popular!
